Trekking the nepalese mountains

Nepal has from the begging been a “must see” country and a country where we early on decided to spend a longer period. Besides from visiting many parts of the country by car we also aimed to go trekking in the Nepalese mountains.

When we arrived in Kathmandu we found a travel agency which is supporting Kilroy Travels – a travel agency which we know from Denmark. It was important for us to find an agency which we could trust.

The agency suggested a 6 nights / 7 days circle trip south of the mountain Annapurna with one guide and one Sherpa.

As we were trekking in the Monsoon season we should expect: rain & heavy rain, slippery paths and many leeches. Furthermore some of the the-houses (small guest houses with a restaurant and a few simple rooms) would be under renovation preparing for the high season (October & November). Last but not least they could not guarantee that we would experience mountain views, which is one of the main reasons for hiking in Nepal.

We had a wonderful time in the mountains. Every day was spent in a more or less similar way; hiking all day, arriving at a the-house in the early afternoon. Cold shower, dinner and early to bed. We slept between 8pm and 9pm every night. Totally exhausted.

The the-houses are located in very small villages only accessible by foot paths. No roads. No cars. Everything needed in the small villages are being carried by humans or by horse. The villages are farming the steep mountains. The grow rice and vegetables. The fields are indeed beautiful.

As you can see from the pictures below, we had wonderful weather and several days with beautiful mountain views. We were so lucky. The scenery in the mountains trekking in the rainforest or in the the-fields was an experience we will never forget.

Trekking during the low season included much less tourists! Which was amazing! Unfortunately, the numbers of leeches were high, but booth our guide and Sherpa were excellent in spotting and removing them from our booth and legs.

We will be back!
