We arrived to Tehran on a public holiday. Thanks for that – the trafficking was crazy even on a sleepy afternoon! But we managed to arrive safely at our Hotel.
Tehran is different compared to any other Irani city we have visited so far. Besides from the traffic it is huge in area and number of citizens (15 million).
It is modern city with metro, cafes and shopping malls. The northern part of Tehran (with is closets to the mountains) is like Europe, with many fancy shops and restaurants. People are dressed up in fashion clothes and women are not paying attention to a falling hijab (scarf covering hair and neck).
The pictures shows some of the highlights:
- The Islamic Revolution and Holy defence museum, which obviously tried to be modern in communication (using all the senses) even though we felt taken back to old museums in Eastern Germany. It supported our previous observations from conversations with our guide and people in the street: the problematic relationship with USA and a self understanding of Iran and Islam being superior and powerful. - The former Embassy of the United States (now taken over by the Revolutionary Guard)
- The Tabiat Bridge, in 3 levels only for pedestrians
People share the same values wether they are Irani or Danish. Families and friends meet and eat and chat. Children have fun when there is water from a fountain. Young people (so called “secret lovers”) meet and kiss, even though they are not allowed. Life goes on ….
