Yesterday we reached Istanbul, Turkey. We have been in Istanbul as tourists before, but never arrived by car. “Usually we don’t have customers arriving by car from Scandinavia” as the nice receptionist said 😉 The city is very hectic, the same goes for the traffic. But we managed to find our Hotel and a parking space.
We meet nice and friendly people all the time. The car creates “Street Credit” and curiosity. Consequently, we experience a lot of questions and conversation with foreigners. The reaction from most of the people are the same: Travelling for a year, that is also something I am dreaming about! I want to do that as well! We feel very lucky that we have taking the decision to live our dream 😉.
Today we have spent the day as tourists. We have revisited the Blue Mosque, the Süleymaniye Mosque and the Grand Bazar. The mosques are extremely impressive. Overwhelming and Amazing in size and architecture. Listen to the video and it will give you a taste of Istanbull.
Tomorrow we will leave Istanbul at 5 o’clock in the morning. We are concerned about our Irani visa, which we must collect in Ankara. After submission of our documents the issue process can take 3 – 4 working days. As they consulate is closed during the weekend, we hope to collect the visa on Wednesday next week. This will allow 3 days to drive the 1400 km to the border of Iran. We are on a tight schedule as we have out first night in Tabriz, Iran booked for Saturday evening (where we will also meet our guide). Cross our fingers we will make it!
